Snow Emergency Ordinance

2/11/2025

IMPORTANT SNOW ORDINANCES

City of St. Charles

Please be advised that it is in violation of the SNOW EMERGENCY Ordinance for any person to park, abandon or leave unattended any vehicle on any public street, alley, or City owned off-street parking area during any snow storm unless the snow has been removed or plowed from said street, alley or parking area and the snow has ceased to fall.

The snow emergency parking ban shall continue throughout the duration of the snow or ice storm and the 48 hour period after cessation of the storm until streets have been fully plowed and/or opened.

VEHICLES PARKED IN VIOLATION OF THE SNOW EMERGENCY ORDINANCE WILL BE TOWED AT THE VEHICLE OWNER’S EXPENSE, WHICH WILL INCLUDE AN ADMINISTRATIVE FEE.

It is the property owner’s responsibility to remove snow, ice and accumulations promptly from sidewalks within a reasonable time (48 hours). If the property owner does not remove snow, etc., the City may do so and assess the costs against the owner for collection in the same manner as a property tax.

Lastly, it is unlawful to throw, push or place any snow or ice from private property, sidewalks or driveways onto the traveled way of a street or alley.
